Hi All,
The 2015 U.S. Shogi Championship is now less than a week away!
Here's Update #3, with the latest information regarding the tournament in New York.
We're up to 67 participants, including kids and spectators!
There's still a chance to register, if you let us know that you're coming in advance.

2015 U.S. Shogi Championship

  • Date: April 3-5, 2015
  • Tournament site: Citigroup Building, 388 Greenwich Street, New York, New York.
  • Host: Japan Shogi Association, New York Branch
  • Sponsors: Citigroup, The Nippon Club, The Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI).

Entry fees

  • Main Event, "Class A & B," $100 ($60 for students [under 21] with valid ID).
  • Beginner's Tournament: "Class C," for players ranked 1 Kyu and below, $20.
  • Kid's Tournament: For children ages 4 to 12, $5.
  • Spectators: Free!
  • Bento box lunch: $15 each day, Saturday & Sunday. Please reserve with advance registration.

A Classic Italian Restaurant in Little Italy, established in 1919.
The restaurant just completed renovations in their private room, which seats up to 50 guests.
There are two singers that perform nightly. They sing for 15 minutes, then take a break for 45 minutes.

At Hilton Garden Inn New York/Tribeca, 39 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY. Friday, April 3rd, 6 PM to 11:30 PM. Private area, just to the left of the lobby.

IMPORTANT NOTICE, all players must register in advance to gain entry into the building and playing site. See entry form below.
All individuals who cannot attend and register on Friday 4/3, must submit the "At-Large player Registration Form" by March 29.
All individuals must bring proper ID, on both days, to be allowed in the Citigroup building.

Prizes

Trophies, books and other prizes. All participants will get a prize!

Rules

Format: In the main event, we will have qualifying quads to determine which players go to the A or B class, followed by 4 rounds A & B class Swiss System, then Semi-Finals & Finals.
Time-Limit: 15 Minutes, followed by 40 seconds Byoyomi. Format for the Beginner's and Kid's tournament will be announced prior to the start of each event.

Schedule of planned events

  1. Registration and practice games with professional players, Friday 4/3, 6 PM to 12 Midnight.
    At the Hilton Garden Inn New York/Tribeca, 39 Avenue of the Americas, Tribeca, New York, NY 10013.
    The Saturday 4/4 & Sunday 4/5 tournament venue is: Citigroup Building, 388 Greenwich Street, New York, New York.
  2. Main event, "Class A & B", Saturday 4/4, 9AM (Opening Ceremony) to 7:00 PM & Sunday 4/5, 9AM to 4:30 PM.
    All players: Please arrive in the lobby area by 8:30 AM to 8:45 AM to allow enough time to go through security on both days.
  3. Beginners tournament, "Class C". Two separate tournaments on Sat. 4/4 (9 AM to 6 PM) and Sun. 4/5 (9 AM to 2:30 PM).
    Professional players will be available for teaching games throughout the event.
  4. Kid's Tournament, for players 4-12 years-old. Sunday, 4/5 10 AM to 1PM~.
  5. Team Match competition. On Saturday afternoon (for "A & B Class" players only).
  6. Friendship Dinner. Saturday 4/4, 7:30 PM. Puglia Restaurant, located at 189 Hester Street (Little Italy), New York, NY.
  7. Final Game and big board analysis by professional players, Sunday, 4/5 at 3:00 PM
  8. Award and Closing Ceremony, Sunday 4/5 at 4 PM to 4:30 PM
