Fourth-Dan Honda Challenges Kio, Becoming the Second Fastest to Challenge A Title Since Debut

The second game of the challenger deciding two-game match for the 45th Kio Tournament was held at Shogi Kaikan in Shibuya, Tokyo on December 27, 2019. Fourth-Dan Honda Kei, aged 22, beat 5-Dan Sasaki Daichi and became the challenger.
It took one year and four months for Honda to become a challenger of a title match since his debut. This is the second fastest record following that of 9-Dan Yashiki Nobuyuki, which is one year, two months and 11 days. Honda also set the record of challenging a title match in one's first attempt in the tournament.

Honda will challenge Kio Watanabe Akira in the five-game title match, which will begin on February 1, 2020.
