Report: the 1st Kyorindo Cup, Japan-China Friendship Junior Shogi Championship

The 1st Kyorindo Cup, Japan-China Friendship Junior Shogi Championship, organized by Beijin Shogi Club and jointly sponsored by Kyorindo Pharmacy, was held on August 6th and 7th in Beijin, China.
The championship was held in two classes for elementary school students and the younger (25 participants), and junior high school students and the older (29 participants). Participating players were students of the teachers from various regions in China, who work for shogi promotion. One player participated from Japan as well.
The winner of the younger class receives a special privilege of being invited to the East Division of the 4th Sanaru Cup, Elementary School Meijin Tournament held in March next year.
From Japan, 9-Dan Teruichi Aono, 7-Dan Eiji Iijima, and Mr. Masayuki Atsumi, the chairman of Kyorindo participated. Collaborators from the International Shogi Popularization Society (ISPS) also joined in Beijin, kindly helping with translation and so forth, making the tournament successful.

Netherlands to host European Shogi Championship 2016 in August receiving more than 100 Participants

From 17th to 21st of August, Nederlandse Shogi Bond (Dutch Shogi Association) will host European Shogi Championship/World Open Shogi Championship 2016. The venue will be the European Go and Cultural Centre in Amstelveen.

There have been already more than 100 registration so far, including the strongest players and champions from European countries.

Professional players and other important guests are also invited.

 On May 26th and 27th, "Ishe-shima Summit" was held in Kashiko-shima Island in Shima City. Prior to that, on April 25th, "2016 Junior Summit in Mie" was held at Nagashima Resort Hotel, where high school students from 7 developed countries discuss about global themes.
 This program included a session for the 28 representatives to experience Japanese traditional culture, and shogi was chosen as one of the items.
 8-Dan Kazuo Azuma and 5-Dan Kazuhiro Nishikawa attended it from JSA, as well as officials from JSA branches in Mie Prefecture, interacting with the representatives.
 The representatives were completely beginners to shogi, but they were very much interested when sitting before the board touching the shogi pieces. The event was very successful.
